hi everyone, just had a though i went to doctor with terrable pain in my right foot, she gave me 2 cortasonze injections in my bottom, 1 week on pain is just the same its on my toes and pads of foot, i feel when i go to docs now she says o thats to do with your RA doesnt matter what i go with i am in and out within minutues  i take 6 mtx on a mon and a folic acid on a wed also naproxin i have to see consultant, just waiting on apointment  just thought i would share my visit to docs with you all has anyone else got this pain it only started about 4 weeksago if its RA why is it only in 1 foot when both feet are used at same time  sylviaxx

It certainly seems that everything we suffer is put down to the RA. I have also found this and on occasion other things have been overlooked as a consequence. I would go back
to GP if no better. It might be a few weeks before you get your Consultant appointment. RA is supposed to mirror joints i.e. if one wrist is sore the other will be etc but I have found single joints to hurt on occasion. I hope this doesn't happen in your case but when I had a very bad shoulder (only one) and had an inj in it a few days later the other shoulder started. Obviously no connection but RA is sporadic and doesn't seem to follow any rules it just does what it wants. Hope you don't have to wait too long for your appointment.

My foot pain is mainly in/around the right ankle although the left one "joins in" very occasionally.
Likewise its mainly in my right knee and not left. Once both go it'll be real difficult.
My theory is that I am right handed, right sided and the RA manages to attack better the joints I might have used more in life..i.e. more worn out.
But there's no logic to it sometimes migrating around..

Hi Sylvia.
I too have sore feet - my left worse than my right. I have seen a rheumy podiatrist and she gave me special insoles to wear in my shoes. This did help as my metatarsals have collapsed giving me pain where you are describing yours and the insoles give support and ease the pain.
I live in Perth and my specialist nurse arranged for me to see other members of the rheumy team such as an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist and a podiatrist. I now have open access to these people should I feel my condition is getting worse.
When you see your consultant I suggest you ask him if there is a rheumatology support team available to you.

thanks for all the support i am left handed but my left side is ok just my right side i have bother with lol is seems to be calming down a bit, i have apointment with RA podiatitry on tues will let you all know how i get on thanks again  sylviaxx

Hi Sylvia Although RA is often considered to be bilateral, affecting both sides of the body, in my case it isn't and never has been despite severe disease! I believe because it's systemic it will simply move around the body and settle where it feels most at home! That said both my feet are bad :( I wrote a blog about feet on Health Unlocked a few months ago. Here's the link if you're interested. Hi Sylvia
I have had continuous pain in the pads on the bottom of my feet. My right is worse than the left. The insoles do help - but I don't like wearing them in the summer with my sandals. I have seen a surgeon who tells me tendons have slipped etc. he can operate but when ever I have had tendon ops before they end up moving back so I haven't been yet.
Hope you get some relief from the podiatrist.

Hi Sylvia i agree with Lyn, ask to be referred to the rheummy podiatrist. My right foot has always been worse than the left, must be the way i put my feet down i think.

thanks everyone for support & advice, i seen podiatry and she made me special insole for my shoe which i must admit has helped a bit  i dont think i have ever suffered such pain as i had its not so bad now, i love walking along my shore into town i i coudnt do walk in and thats was very frustrating, still cant walk full way but hopefully will keep getting wee bit better thanks again sylvia xx

thanks lyn, i just read your blog about feet and yes i agree with everything you wrote, my trusty trainers last me 6 weeks then begin to look scruffy and i also have big bunion on each foot i find rebok are the only ones that are wide eneough to be comfortable thanks lyn sylviaxx

Ihave very sore feet as well. I also was given insoles to put in shoes and yes they do help BUT the pain is still
there and I get shooting pains.
My left is worse than my right. I understand how you must be feeling

I might write the right things about feet but once again I'm up again at an unearthly hour because aforementioned feet are driving me mad!!  Apart from the dropped arches and inflamed remaining metatarsal heads I think I must have plantar fasciitis as well Wretched feet, if I could just get the damned things replaced ... Already dosed-up on painkillers  but pains not gone, I'm far too hot and I can't sleep! Gnats pee that's what I need but where can I get my mitts on that at this time of night? Hmmm.... Lyn x

My gran has RA and her feet have always been her WORST bits.
She has had a lot of surgery over the years on them.
When I was first ill my feet were dreadfully painful. Now they dont sit straight and they are hurty from time to time. Ankles always wonky and hurty but feet themselves, once the arches totally collapsed the pain actually was less.
In the beginning I had orthotic insoles made for me.
i have never seen a podiatrist which makes me cross sometimes because I have seen OTs about hands several times.

im the same jenni, i didnt know there was a rheumatiod podiatrist till 4 weeks ago i had apointment with occ therapist and she was giving me splints for my wrists i explained that it was my feet i was there with and she said i would have to make another apointment and gave me splints anyway, lol so will have to wait now for another apointment although i dont know what kind of exercise i can do when they are sore when i walk , anyway once again i will wait and see onwards and upwards keep smiling sylvia xxxxx
